A joyous ‘wild hunt’ roars past above the father of the Nordic gods, Odin, who, in the company of his two wolves Geri and Freki (the ravenous and the grim one), listens to his ravens Huginn und Muninn (thought and memory), who tell him of the doings of all beings on earth.
Next to him is the great earth-mother of antiquity, Demeter, custodian of fertility, bestowing her gifts and giving her blessing.
The joyous ‘wild hunt’ is led by Hyperborean Apollo, the Nordic god of light, who travels every autumn on a chariot drawn by swans from his place of birth, the Greek island of Delos, to the north into the realm of the god Boreas (north wind), to fabled Hyperborea, only to return in the spring.
